$42.6M grant to revitalize East Knoxville areas impacted by urban renewal

The City of Knoxville and Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation (KCDC) announced Wednesday they’d be receiving a $42.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the largest federal grant award in the city’s recent history.

The money will be used to make connectivity improvements between East Knoxville and other areas. The city’s goal is to make downtown and the urban wilderness in South Knoxville more accessible to East Knoxville residents via walking, biking, or other forms of transportation.
