A carnivore concept is coming downtown — next to a vegan restaurant. Will they compete?

A new restaurant is opening next to KoPita Falafel and Hummus Bar on Gay Street with a similar atmosphere, furniture and name. But there is one major difference: The new concept will serve food for carnivores, providing balance to its next-door neighbor’s totally vegan menu.

Is this about competition? A theft of intellectual property?

Not at all. It’s about a business owner responding to customer support and jumping on an opportunity when a neighboring business closed its doors.

Avi Zenatti, owner of the original KoPita, is expanding his presence in downtown Knoxville by opening KoPita Meats, a meat-focused restaurant blending cuisine from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
