Developers find treasures while working on downtown Knoxville building

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Downtown Knoxville continues to change, but a developer plans to take one building into the future by bringing back the past.

A group of developers drew up plans for apartments in the Hope Brothers Building on the 400 block of Gay St.

Hope Brothers Jewelers owned the space in the early 1900′s. Their specialty included dealing in precious metals and fine jewelry.

Orel Brodt, project coordinator, has been exploring the space. She’s found a stove used to melt the jewelry, boxes of old receipts and cash registers scattered along with the upper floors.
