Frosty weather ahead for Knoxville! Here’s your holiday forecast, plus tips for safe gatherings

Knoxville’s in for some frosty weather this holiday week, but it’s unclear whether snow will accumulate enough to call it a white Christmas.

One thing is certain, it’s going to be cold. Dress warmly if you’re planning a socially distanced gathering outside for Christmas this year.

Meteorologist Tim Doyle of the National Weather Service in Morristown said a mix of rain and snow is on the horizon for East Tennessee on Christmas Eve.

Temperatures in Knoxville will fall into the 30s in the early afternoon, dipping closer to freezing by the early evening. Rain is expected throughout the day, shifting into a mix of rain and snow showers Thursday afternoon. Snow showers may continue Thursday night, with lows dipping below freezing, into the lower 20s.
