Knoxville World War II veteran celebrates 100th birthday, honored with proclamation from mayor

A World War II veteran celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday in Knoxville and will receive more accolades for his accomplishments next week.

Born on March 9, 1924 in Italy, Dario Antonucci immigrated to the United States in 1937 with his parents and sister and settled in Long Island, New York. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a radio operator until 1946. After this, he worked at Grumman Aerospace Corporation for 27 years and worked on several projects for NASA and the Navy.
