One-time event brings classic Knoxville novel ‘Suttree’ to life through film and music

The name “Suttree” is everywhere you look in Knoxville, from riverfront parks to “high gravity” taverns. 

And locals will soon have an opportunity to step back in time to 1950s Knoxville and experience where the influential name came from. Live music and film will illustrate the story of Cormac McCarthy’s classic 1979 novel by the same name.

Big Ears Festival is hosting a multimedia experience at Lakeshore Park on Thursday, projecting an archival film of real-life Knoxville scenes from the classic novel set to a live score.
