Which Former Vols Are Set for the Upcoming NBA Playoffs?

A handful of former Tennessee basketball players are set for a shot at the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

First up is Jaden Springer, a former one-and-done guard from the 2020-2021 Tennessee basketball team. While starting the season with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that drafted him in the first round in 2021, Springer was traded to the Boston Celtics in a three-team deal at the trade deadline in early February.

Springer has played 17 games for the East’s top team since the trade, with an average of 2.1 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per contest. Springer is averaging just under eight minutes per game with the Celtics heading into the playoffs.

Dalton Knecht’s explosive second half leads Vols past No. 11 Auburn

Fourth-ranked Tennessee’s bid for the SEC regular season title lives on after a 92-84 home win over No. 11 Auburn. With the Tigers and South Carolina just one game back of Tennessee and Alabama in the standings, Wednesday’s game was a must-win.

Once again, the driving force behind the winning performance was Dalton Knecht. He poured in a game-high 39 points as he tied his career-high set against Florida earlier this year. Knecht exploded in the second half as 27 of his 39 points came in the final 20 minutes of play.

Aidoo Named SEC Player of the Week

For the first time in his career, Jonas Aidoo of the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team is the SEC Player of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

A junior forward, Aidoo averaged 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game across a pair of dominant league victories last week. He shot 16-of-24 (66.7 percent) from the floor in his 50 minutes of action.

Tennessee Volunteers Prepare to Dominate In-State Rival, Vanderbilt, in Knoxville Showdown

Tennessee is set to face in-state rival Vanderbilt in Knoxville after previously beating them 75-62 in Nashville. Tennessee holds an 18-6 overall record and improved to 8-3 in conference play by defeating Arkansas. Vanderbilt, with a 7-17 record, has shown improvement with recent conference wins. The game is set to air on SEC Network at 6 p.m. ET, with Tennessee favored by 20 points.

No. 8 Tennessee out to continue Missouri’s 12-game skid

No. 8 Tennessee has been in peak offensive and defensive form heading into the stretch run of the Southeastern Conference season. The Volunteers (19-6, 9-3 SEC) rolled over Arkansas 92-63 and Vanderbilt 88-53 in their last two games. Now they will try to do the same to undermanned Missouri (8-17, 0-12) Tuesday in Knoxville, Tenn. The Tigers have lost 12 straight games. Tennessee coach Rick Barnes was able to spread playing time during the two lopsided victories, giving his starters some rest ahead of “March Madness” while giving some of his younger players more experience. Guard Dalton Knecht, the Volunteers’ leading scorer with 20.1 points per game, scored 14 points in 22 minutes against Vanderbilt. Guard Zakai Zeigler, who averages 11.0 per game, scored 14 in 24 minutes.

‘I love it here’ | Dalton Knecht visits D1 Hardin Valley to play hoops with kids

Tennessee basketball is coming off a huge win against its rival Kentucky on Saturday night. The day after the big win, Dalton Knecht went over to D1 in Hardin Valley and shot some hoops with kids for a NIL event.

The team didn’t get back from Lexington until 3 a.m. Saturday. Knecht made a quick turn to wake up in the morning and play some knockout with young hoopers.

What is Rick Barnes’ record against Kentucky? Tennessee basketball coach vs. Wildcats

Rick Barnes is heading into his 20th matchup with Kentucky as the Tennessee basketball coach.

The No. 5 Vols (15-5, 5-2 SEC) face the No. 8 Wildcats (15-5, 5-3) on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Rupp Arena. It is the 10th time UT and UK have met as ranked teams in Barnes’ tenure and the fourth time with both teams ranked in the top 10.

Knecht Chosen for Julius Erving SF of the Year Midseason Top 10 List

Dalton Knecht of the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team is a member of the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Midseason Top 10 List, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor, in its tenth year, recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the list of 10 candidates.

South Carolina pulls off another upset, this time vs. No. 5 Tennessee

Ta’Lon Cooper scored 18 points and South Carolina notched another big upset with a 63-59 victory over No. 5 Tennessee in Southeastern Conference play on Tuesday night at Knoxville, Tenn.

B.J. Mack added 16 points and Myles Stute had 13 as the Gamecocks (18-3, 6-2 SEC) won their fourth straight game and 11th in the past 13. South Carolina took down the Vols exactly one week after routing then-No. 6 Kentucky 79-62.

Tennessee basketball moves up in AP Poll on Christmas

Tennessee basketball moved up two spots to No. 6 in the AP Poll on Christmas day after beating Tarleton State in its only game last week.

It’s the highest the Vols have been ranked this season. They’ve now been ranked inside of the AP Top 25 for 46 consecutive weeks to extend their program record. It’s the 19th time during that span that they’ve been ranked inside the top 10.
