Knoxville is getting ready for Christmas in the City!

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Crews are already hanging nearly 150,000 lights as Knoxville prepares for Christmas in the City.

Officials said that some elements were canceled or amended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are so excited to celebrate the holiday season together and to bring back traditions that so many of us missed last year,” Mayor Indya Kincannon said. I am looking forward to seeing families create memories downtown ice skating, taking pictures in Krutch Park and enjoying the Regal Celebration of Lights the day after Thanksgiving!”

Christmas display extravaganza held in Knoxville neighborhood

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – One neighborhood in Knoxville might just be the Christmas capitol of Tennessee.

If you’re looking for some Christmas cheer amid a stressful year, you’ve got no further to go than Gray Eagle Lane in Knoxville.

The owners on Gray Eagle Lane tell WVLT News that it takes about a month to get the lights and displays up, and they begin setting up right around Halloween and finish up around Thanksgiving.

About five years ago, the family built a separate garage to hold all the Christmas lights and displays. It pays off. The family said they’ve had up to 1,200 people come by in one day this year.

Tennessee police hand out gift cards instead of tickets

When these drivers were pulled over in Knoxville, Tennessee, they expected police would give them a ticket. Instead, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, feeling the Christmas spirit, handed out $50 gift cards for “good driving.”

Annual Knoxville Christmas Parade returns Friday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Dozens of festive floats will make their way through downtown Knoxville Friday night for the 47th annual WIVK Christmas parade.

This holiday favorite will step off onto Church Street at 6 p.m. and travel along Gay Street to Magnolia Avenue.

There will be high school marching bands, dance groups, costumed characters, theme floats, vintage vehicles and the man of the hour, Santa Claus.

This year’s grand marshal will be the University of Tennessee’s mascot “Smoky”.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) — The holidays are here and many families Christmas celebrations involve sweet treats.

Nearly $2 billion worth of candy is sold during the holidays each year, according to a report by CandyStore.

CandyStore broke down which candy each state buys the most of during Christmas time.

Tennesee’s top Christmas candy was peppermint bark. Candy canes and Starbursts come in as second and third.

The most popular Christmas candies in America were Reese’s mini cups and candy canes.
