University of Tennessee identifies COVID-19 cluster from an off-campus Halloween party

A new cluster of COVID-19 cases has been identified by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, stemming from an off-campus gathering hosted on Halloween.

The gathering was in a residence on the 1700 block of Lake Avenue that occurred on Oct. 31. Five people at the party tested positive for COVID-19 and four people are considered close contacts, said UT spokesperson Owen Driskill.

The gathering that resulted in the cluster was with a small group of people, he said.

“Contact tracing has been completed, and we greatly appreciate the cooperation of those involved to report their health situation and to share information with contact tracers,” Driskill said. “The students’ willingness to do the right thing was critical for us to get in front of this situation.”
